Scientific Calculator — Full Feature Guide

This free online scientific calculator supports all the operations available on a physical scientific calculator. Key functions: trigonometric (sin, cos, tan and their inverses), logarithms (log base 10 and natural log ln), exponents (x², x³, xʸ, 10ˣ), roots (√x, ³√x), factorial (n!), absolute value (|x|), reciprocal (1/x), constants (π, e), memory (MS, MR, M+, MC), and angle mode switching (degrees, radians, gradians).

Degree vs Radian Mode

Trigonometric functions can operate in degrees or radians. Use DEG mode for everyday problems where angles are expressed in degrees (0°-360°). Use RAD mode for calculus, physics, and engineering problems. Key values: in DEG mode, sin(30°)=0.5, cos(60°)=0.5, tan(45°)=1. In RAD mode, sin(π/6)=0.5, sin(π/2)=1. Toggle using the DEG/RAD buttons above.

Inverse Trigonometric Functions

Press INV to switch sin/cos/tan to their inverses: sin⁻¹ (arcsin), cos⁻¹ (arccos), tan⁻¹ (arctan). Also switches log to 10ˣ. These functions find the angle given a ratio — for example sin⁻¹(0.5) = 30° in degree mode.

Log vs Ln — When to Use Each

log is log base 10 (common logarithm). Used in pH chemistry (pH = -log[H⁺]), decibel calculations, and engineering. log(100) = 2, log(1000) = 3. ln is the natural logarithm (base e ≈ 2.71828). Used in calculus, compound interest, population growth, and radioactive decay. ln(e) = 1, ln(e²) = 2.

How to Use Memory Functions

MS (Memory Store): saves the current display value to memory. MR (Memory Recall): pastes the stored value onto the display. M+ (Memory Add): adds the current display value to whatever is already in memory. MC (Memory Clear): erases the memory. Ans: inserts the result of the previous calculation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Enter numbers using digit buttons, use operators between them, press = to calculate. For functions (sin, log, √): press the function button first, then enter the number. Press AC to clear everything.
Trigonometric functions: sin(90°)=1, cos(0°)=1, tan(45°)=1 in degree mode. They calculate ratios of sides in right triangles and are fundamental in geometry, physics, and engineering.
log is base 10 (log(100)=2). ln is base e (ln(e)=1). Use log for pH and decibels, ln for calculus and natural growth/decay calculations.
Enter the number then press n!. Example: 5! = 120, 10! = 3,628,800. Factorials grow extremely quickly.
Ans is the previous answer. Press Ans to use it in the next calculation without retyping — e.g. if last result was 144, pressing √ then Ans gives 12.
