How to Calculate Your Grade

Your final grade is calculated by multiplying each assignment or test score by its weight and adding the results. For example, if homework counts for 20% (you scored 80%), a midterm counts for 30% (you scored 70%), and the final exam counts for 50% (you scored 85%): Final grade = (80×0.20) + (70×0.30) + (85×0.50) = 16 + 21 + 42.5 = 79.5%. This tool does this calculation automatically — just enter your scores and weights.

What Grade Do I Need on My Final Exam?

Use the "Required Grade" tab to find out. Enter your current grade (before the final), the weight of the final exam, and the grade you want to achieve. The formula is: Required = (Desired − Current × (1 − Final Weight)) ÷ Final Weight. For example, if your current grade is 75%, the final is worth 40%, and you want a 80%: Required = (80 − 75 × 0.60) ÷ 0.40 = (80 − 45) ÷ 0.40 = 87.5%. You need at least 87.5% on the final.

How Is GPA Calculated?

GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated by converting each course grade to grade points, multiplying by credit hours, summing everything, and dividing by total credits. Grade points: A/A+ = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B− = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0.0. This calculator converts percentage grades to letter grades and grade points automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions

Multiply each score by its weight and add the results. The Weighted Grade tab above does this automatically. Just enter each assignment with its score and weight percentage.
Use the Required Grade tab. Enter your current grade, the final exam weight, and your target grade. The calculator shows the minimum score you need.
Convert each grade to points (A=4.0, B=3.0, C=2.0, D=1.0, F=0), multiply by credit hours, sum all results, divide by total credits.
A weighted grade gives different assignments different importance levels. Homework might count 20%, midterm 30%, final 50%. Each score is multiplied by its weight before being totalled.
