LinkedIn post: 3,000 characters for regular posts, 700 for comments. SMS: 160 characters per message — longer messages are split into segments of 153 characters. Instagram bio: 150 characters. Meta description (SEO): 155-160 characters recommended. Google title tag: 60 characters recommended.

Characters With vs Without Spaces

Characters with spaces counts every character in your text including blank spaces, tabs, and line breaks. Characters without spaces counts only visible characters — letters, numbers, and punctuation — excluding all whitespace. Academic writing often uses "characters without spaces" as a word count alternative. Some platforms and submission systems specify which count they use, so check carefully.
